Marchwiel Hall stands as a testament to Georgian elegance, nestled on a 165-acre estate that includes established parkland, mature woodland, and a tranquil 3-acre lake. The white exterior is adorned with classical architectural elements, including columns supporting a pediment above the central entrance. Rooms and capacities
Marchwiel Hall boasts a stunning Ballroom which can seat x 80 guests for dinner, up to a maximum of x 120 evening guests. As a ceremony space, capacity is 100 guests.
The equally beautiful Morning Room is an ideal choice for a smaller ceremony and can seat up to x 50 guests. For a larger wedding, this flexible space can be turned into a bar area.
Another choice of room is the Dining Room which can seat 22 guests for dining.
The estate’s landscaped grounds, with the lush countryside beyond, can host the option of a marquee for up to x 200 guests, depending on design. Also within the pretty grounds, is a lovely terrace and sun bar, ideal options for a drinks reception.
With regards to accommodation, the estate boasts two braising games keepers cottages that are newly refurbished. The two cottages offer 3 bedrooms, with open plan kitchen dining areas, separate comfortable lounge, large gardens and patio areas. Ideal for wedding parties! Accommodation within the hall itself, is set to open during 2025.
Photography spots are abundant within the house and grounds, including 40 acres of woodland, the dramatic staircase, a field carpeted with buttercups beside the house as well as a beautiful large tree by the cricket ground, with its blanket of bluebells during Spring!
A little history
Marchwiel Hall and the surrounding estate has a rich history dating back centuries. Originally built in the 17th century, there is a plaque that can still be found on the north stable block. In 1913, the Hall, along with the two church pews, was bought by Sir Alfred McAlpine. The company Sir Alfred McAlpine and Son is known for its involvement in construction and engineering, with contracts such as the Dorchester in London and Wembley Stadium as part of their portfolio. They built approximately 10% of Britain’s motorways, including the M6 toll. Sir Alfred was, on multiple occasions, President of Wrexham Football Club and, for a long time, President of Denbighshire Cricket Club. The cricket grounds at the rear of the property, continue to be an important part of the local community, now the home of Marchwiel and Wrexham Cricket Club. Exciting and notable moments in its recent history include when Marchwiel won the Whitbread Trophy of village cricket at Lords in 1980 and 1984.
Present owners of Marchwiel Hall, Laurence and Kirsty met in the Selati Game Reserve adjacent to South Africa’s world-renowned Kruger National Park back in 2007, where they worked together on a lion research project. Kirsty travelled to South Africa after completing her BSc in Zoology at Edinburgh University to experience the African bush. She then trained as a field guide before joining the lion research project. After this, she continued her studies on the West Coast of South Africa, investigating the genetic diversity of the elusive desert rain frog. When she finished her MSc, she and Laurence married and decided to build a home on a game reserve near where they first met. Laurence started as an ecologist after obtaining his BSc Honours in Biology and then began working as a guide and researcher in various game reserves in Southern Africa, where he managed and helped establish several 5-star bush lodges aimed at providing an exceptional standard of hospitality to both international and local clientele.
After welcoming the first of their two children, the couple decided to move back to the UK, where they chose to take on the project of restoring Kirsty’s family home. They have spent the last 12 years meticulously bringing the Hall back to its former glory with the intention of turning it into an elegant wedding and events venue in North Wales.
Emma Leslie, a close family friend and god daughter to Kirsty’s mum, has a successful background in interior design, property development, estate management, and events, came on board to help launch the new business. Marchwiel Hall Events Ltd launches and enters the exciting wedding and events industry!
Marchwiel Hall has remained a family home since 1913 and now houses its 5th generation with its exciting future and venture ahead.
