Set against the verdant backdrop of Perugia’s countryside, the Borgo’s history is steeped in a passion for the land. In the 14th century, Colognola was officially documented as a thriving agricultural hub, its life centered around simple houses, a church, and essential farming structures.
Over the centuries, the estate grew into a cohesive, private farm with manor houses, mills, an oratory, and expansive fields. In 1926, captivated by its charm, Pio Dominici purchased Borgo Colognola from the Marquis of Tuscany, setting the stage for its renaissance. Despite damage during wartime, a major restoration in 2007 preserved its original character, reviving antique wooden beams, terracotta floors, ancient gates, and a Baroque church adorned with 17th-century artistry.
Today, every stone and every olive tree at Borgo Colognola whispers stories of devotion to place, tradition, and timeless beauty.
From Harvest to Bottle: A New Era of Wine
Historically, Borgo Colognola’s grapes were sold to local wine producers. But in 2024, they took a bold step forward, bottling their own vintages – a milestone celebrated by the Italian magazine I Grandi Vini in their October feature, “The First Wines of Borgo Colognola.”
The estate introduced two wines crafted to mirror the spirit of their storied soil:
Red Wine
A robust blend of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Bold and beautifully balanced, it pairs with hearty dishes like braised meats, boar, and rustic legumes.
White Wine
A lively marriage of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Manzoni, crisp and aromatic – perfect for seafood, oily fish like salmon, and vibrant vegetable dishes.
