The four-star resort in Hensol, South Wales, has been named as Wales’s Best Resort Spa 2021 and Wales’s Best Golf Hotel 2021 by the World Travel Awards every year since 2017.
Double award win for The Vale Resort at the World Travel Awards for fifth year running
The World Spa Awards were held digitally for a second time, owing to the Covid-19 restrictions, whereas the World Golf Awards held its eighth annual ceremony at Park Hyatt in Dubai.
The Vale Resort has now successfully retained the award for Wales’s Best Resort Spa for five years, fighting off stiff competition from the Forum Spa at The Celtic Manor in Newport.
It’s also the fifth consecutive year the resort has been named Wales’s Best Golf Hotel, once again triumphing over The Celtic Manor Resort and Bryn Meadows Golf Hotel and Spa for the top spot.
Votes are cast by professionals working within each industry – senior executives, travel buyers, tour operators, agents and media, and by members of the public.
Stephanie Metson, Marketing Manager at the Vale Resort, said: “We are blown away by being recognised in both awards for the fifth year in a row. The competition is always fierce so scooping the awards yet again is testimony to the first-class service visitors can expect when they come across all areas of the resort.
“Our staff always work tirelessly – even more so during the pandemic – and the awards are a huge testament to their unstinting commitment to going the extra mile in everything they do.
“We seem to be on a winning streak at the moment. Our craft gin distillery’s latest offering, Hensol Castle Welsh Dry Gin, picked up its first Gold Medal at the Gin Masters in the London Dry category. Here’s hoping 2022 will bring even more successes of which we can all be proud.”
Spa
The Vale Spa is the largest spa in Wales and has 19 treatment rooms and five bespoke relaxation zones. These include the ‘chill-out’ zone with leather sofas and magazines, the ‘float’ zone, with water beds and water feature, and the ‘slumber’ chamber, with low lighting and quilts. The resort’s spa and leisure facilities also include a 20-metre pool, whirlpool bath, steam room and sauna.
The Vale Resort earned itself a coveted place in the first edition of Lonely Planet’s Wellness Escapes book, which features 200 top wellness destinations from across the world and is also partnered with a host of luxury brands including Clarins and Temple Spa.
Golf
The Vale Resort’s two championship golf courses have been host to a number of PGA and European golf tournaments over the years.
The Wales National, at 7,433 yards off the championship tees, is one of the longest courses outside America. The Lake course, slightly shorter at 6,436 yards, is just as challenging, and aptly named with water coming into play on 12 of its holes.
Hensol Castle Distillery
The cellars of the castle have been converted into a craft spirit distillery, gin school and visitor experience. Visitors can tour the distillery and even distil their own bespoke bottle of gin made to their own specific taste in the gin school.
Current products distilled at Hensol Castle Distillery include:
* Hensol Castle Welsh Dry Gin, a super-premium gin made with ingredients foraged from the estate and local area
* Benjamin Hall Gin (London Dry Gin, Strawberry Gin, Blackberry Gin, Sicilian Lemon Gin, Vodka)
* TRULO – range of reduced calorie liqueurs including Coconut Rum, Peach Melba, Espresso and Passion Fruit.
