This winter, we’re heading to the heart of Oxfordshire to experience something truly special at The Double Red Duke, the boutique hotel and restaurant from Sam and Georgie Pearman that has become synonymous with relaxed luxury, exceptional food and charming countryside hospitality.

Awaken the Maker at The Double Red Duke
A Creative Escape to the Oxfordshire Countryside
Tucked away in the village of Clanfield, this characterful retreat has just unveiled Awaken the Maker – a new series of immersive, hands-on workshops designed to reconnect guests with creativity, craftsmanship and the natural world.

Curated by Savannah Miller, the series brings together makers and artists who work with nature, tradition and tactile craft. Whether you’re yearning to explore a new creative practice or simply looking for a mindful escape in a beautiful setting, these workshops promise inspiration in abundance.

Pressed Floral Narratives with JamJar Edit
Tuesday 18 November
The series began with Amy Fielding of JamJar Edit, celebrated for her exquisite pressed flower compositions. In this workshop, Amy guided guests through the delicate process of botanical pressing – revealing how flowers can tell stories, capture fleeting moments and become enduring works of art. Guests spent the morning exploring blooms, colour, and composition before crafting their own pressed-floral piece to take home.

Copperplate Craftsmanship with Kate Ridyard
Tuesday 9 December
Next, on 9 December, renowned London-based calligrapher Kate Ridyard invites guests into the timeless world of Copperplate Calligraphy.

Known for her elegant hand and thoughtful teaching style, Kate will demonstrate the meditative beauty of working with a traditional dip pen and ink. Over four serene hours, participants will learn the rhythmic strokes and flourishing lines that define this classic script – perfect for elevating handwritten notes, invitations or simply reconnecting with the art of slow communication.

A Day of Learning, Creating and Dining
Each workshop runs from 10am to 2pm and includes a beautifully prepared three-course lunch at The Double Red Duke’s celebrated restaurant. It’s a rare opportunity to slow down, savour the moment and immerse yourself in creativity – surrounded by the hotel’s cosy interiors, roaring fires and the charm of an English village.

We’ll be visiting The Double Red Duke to experience one of these workshops firsthand, and we can’t wait to share the full story.
Look out for our feature in the winter issue of Travel Life Magazine, out at the beginning of January.
