If you’re looking for the perfect combination of stunning coastal scenery and beautiful countryside, then Wales should be on your bucket list. Pembrokeshire is the Cornwall of Wales and Carmarthenshire is its Devon equivalent. The west coast up to Anglesey is hugely popular too but what about the Vale? That’s The Vale of Glamorgan if we’re using its full and proper name.

Llantwit Major

Yes, the Vale is pretty special but not a huge amount of tourists even know about it. At it’s heart is the market town of Cowbridge (the fashion capital). It used to boast over twenty boutiques – not quite as many these days but it’s still hugely popular with ladies that lunch, and it has some excellent restaurants and eateries. It even has a castle ruins and if you’re visiting check out the Physic Garden.

Down south is Barry Island, the spiritual home of the world famous Gavin & Stacey TV series. You can pop into Marco’s cafe (great coffee) and even take a selfie with the cast outside. It’s hugely popular with visitors.

Hensol Forest

The coastline and countryside here is quite stunning and there are plenty of walks for those adventurous types among you.

East Aberthaw

If you do visit, try to pick up the latest issue of Vale Life, The Vale of Glamorgan’s Premier Lifestyle Magazine. It’s affectionately known locally as ‘The Vogue of The Vale’. If you can’t grab a copy, you can visit the website of read a recent edition on the Issuu app.
