Vueling Airlines, a company part of International Airlines Group (IAG), has re-started its services from Cardiff Airport for the summer 2020 season.
The airline resumes its operations from Cardiff Airport with services to Alicante
In August, Vueling will re-start flights to Malaga and Palma de Mallorca
Palma de Mallorca route will operate on a larger Airbus A321 aircraft, able to carry 220 passengers.
Obviously this can all change with government restrictions…
The Spanish airline today operated its first flight to Alicante, with passengers jetting off to some sun and relaxation on the beautiful Costa Blanca. Customers can fly to Alicante once per week in July, and up to twice a week throughout August.
Vueling will also be re-commencing direct services to Malaga from August 1st, with 3 weekly flights every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Located on the Costa del Sol, with plenty of resorts to choose from, Malaga offers beach-lovers the perfect summer escape with its sun-drenched coast and vibrant atmosphere.
From August 3rd, Vueling will resume flights to Palma de Mallorca, with 2 weekly flights every Monday and Thursday, operated on an Airbus A321 aircraft with capacity for 220 passengers, meaning more seats are available for a getaway on the stunning Balearic Island, famous for its beautiful coves, picturesque scenery and buzzing night life.
Spencer Birns, Chief Commercial Officer at Cardiff Airport, said: “Vueling has provided our customers with regular flights to popular Spanish destinations for over eight years, and it’s fantastic that the airline is re-starting their Cardiff flights following lockdown.
“Celebrating the one million passenger milestone with Vueling last summer was testament to the airline’s success in the region, and we are pleased it continues to serve our customers looking to jet off to some sun, or to visit their friends and family in Spain. Furthermore, the larger aircraft used to operate the Palma de Mallorca route shows demand in Wales remains high as customers look to travel internationally once again.”
Cardiff Airport has introduced a number of safety measures across the Airport so that customers can travel safely and with confidence. New measures include enhanced cleaning, more hand sanitizer points, Perspex screens, asking customers to wear three-layer, non-medical face coverings, and installing clear signage and guidance throughout the terminal to ensure social distancing. All Airport teams are fully trained on COVID-19 and are wearing face coverings and appropriate PPE to keep people safe. There is also a team of Airport Stewards on hand to help customers with the changes and make the Airport journey as smooth as possible.

A new phase focused on health and safety on board
During this new phase, Vueling will continue to be in contact with the health and aviation authorities, so that the gradual reactivation of the routes is always aligned and constantly updated with flight restrictions in Europe and following the safety measures coordinated by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in collaboration with the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC), thus offering the highest standards of safety and hygiene on its flights.
After the most critical phase of the pandemic, Vueling collaborated with the authorities and regulatory bodies, as well as with the other players in the sector (among others, airport operators, management, maintenance and cleaning services) to implement the new procedures required in the different phases of flight, with one goal: to guarantee the health of all the people who, in the present and in the future, continue to choose Vueling as a means of transport for their travel needs.
Vueling has announced recently its summer operations in Europe for the months of July and August, with a total of 240 routes and over 2,800 flights to be operated weekly.
